27. 4. 2015

O2 continues to purchase exclusive content for its television service. Live broadcasts, freshly recorded output and support shows featuring selected combat sports produced by Fighting Spirit will from August be shown on the company's O2 Sport channel. The television studio as well as the broadcasting equipment and facilities for the O2 Sport channel have been located in the O2 Arena.

Boxing, kickboxing and mixed martial arts exclusively on O2 TV

O2 Sport will apply a simple concept: it will offer viewers the best sporting contests currently available on the global market. In addition to football and tennis, the channel will also focus its attention on unique combat sport competitions. From August, customers will be able to enjoy live broadcasts of boxing, kickboxing and the increasingly popular mixed martial arts (MMA). "When acquiring new content we place maximum emphasis on the content's appeal for our viewers. And combat sports are currently booming, with a rapid growth in popularity," said Anna Lenerová, the O2 manager responsible for acquiring new channels and sports broadcasting rights for O2 TV. " Fans can therefore look forward to a diverse range of the best that combat sports can offer, including performances by the top Czech fighters," added Lenerová.

In addition to live broadcasts from prestigious gala nights from around the world, O2 Sport will also feature kickboxing magazine show Fighting Rookies and the Fighting Spirit MMA show presenting a selection of the best ultimate fights across MMA organisations in Europe, Asia and North America.

The offer of programming from the world of combat sports follows on from the announcements of confirmed exclusive content from UEFA Champions League football, the World Rally Championship, the men's and women's European Volleyball Championships and the prestigious ATP and WTA tennis tournaments. Both O2 TV and the mobile O2TV Go platform also delight sport fans with matches from the world's best football league, the English Premier League.

O2 Sport studio to be created in the O2 Arena

The O2 Sport channel is scheduled to go live on 15 August 2015. "We are currently preparing the necessary technical solutions and deciding on the overall visual style for the TV station, while also recruiting editors and show hosts," said Marek Kindernay, Manager of O2 Sport. "It took us a relatively long time to decide where to locate the television studio, but the final and very logical choice was the cathedral of Czech sports, the O2 Arena in Prague. As we are creating the best sports channel, we want to operate from a studio that is part of the most representative setting available in the country. We were looking for a place that would be both unique and offer the necessary technological facilities. The O2 Arena guarantees both," added Kindernay.

O2 Sport will be available on the digital O2 TV service as well as via mobile O2TV Go. The channel will broadcast every day from morning till late night, with all shows available for replays for a period of 30 hours after the initial broadcast. Additionally, the "mosaic" function will enable easy switching between two concurrent matches. This technology will be available, for example, for Champions League football ties and tennis tournaments.
